The new GRAND PRIX championship of historic vehicles

Autoclub of the Czech Republic today, together with the organizers of sports events, he presented the new GRAND PRIX championship of historic vehicles, the first year of which will take place next year. The series will have four races and the best driver will win the Traveling Cup of the President of the Czech Auto Club.
The creation of the championship was initiated by the Autoklub ČR and the organizers of traditional veteran competitions themselves. Miroslav Krejsa for the Czechoslovak 1000 miles, Karel Kupka, organizer of the Brno Revival, Ladislav Samohýl and Miloslav Regner for the Bugatti Grand Prix – Zlín and Marketa Profeldová, director of the Zbraslav–Jíloviště race, declared their interest in diversifying and, in cooperation with Autoklub ČR, increasing the attractiveness of their already high-quality races.
The driving force of all those involved is the passion for historic vehicles and the support of this hobby. "We are actually restoring a historical tradition. The auto club was at the beginning and was the direct organizer of the famous Czechoslovak 1000 miles and Zbraslav–Jíloviště, one of the oldest races in our country. With the championship, we continue this legacy, and at the same time we want to support the current organizers in their efforts," said the president of the Autoklub ČR, Jan Šťovíček.
Autoklub ČR assumes the role of an umbrella organization and sports authority. It will also ensure the supply of technical support for the time measurement system and evaluation of results, organizational and material equipment, communication with the public and the media, and promotion of the championship.
The competition will be held for vehicles manufactured before 1939. They will compete in a regularity drive, i.e. they will drive with time, not against it. By the end of February 2019, the standard propositions will be published on the new website with a visual presentation of the championship. Photo/video documentation with a press release will be prepared for the media from each race.
The first year of the GRAND PRIX championship of historic vehicles will be held in the year when the Autoklub ČR celebrates the 90th anniversary of the clubhouse in Opletalová Street. "Our goal is to open the clubhouse to the general public. This year we already managed to do it with the very successful Tribute to Motorism event. Even in the jubilee year, we will focus on spreading the fame of the most famous motoring address in our country. And the championship of historic vehicles will be one of the events that we want to attract attention to," revealed Jan Šťovíček.
