Brno exhibition center: Between the pavilions - race for the prize of the city of Brno

The grounds of the Brno Exhibition Center were first opened to the public in 1928. Car exhibitions in the pre-war years were closely linked to demonstration events and, by extension, to races on the Masaryk circuit. However, other motoring events were held in the area of the Exhibition Center itself. The first mention of a motorcycle race dates back to 1935. In the 1950s, tests of the driving characteristics of single-seater racing cars were even carried out on the oval of the cycling velodrome. In the late 1950s and especially in the 1960s, car, formula car and motorcycle races were held almost regularly inside the fairgrounds. They were organized by AMK Svazarmu Královodvorská strojírny and ZO Svazarmu BVV. The competitions of the South Moravian Region championship were run on a simple track, 1630 m long, right behind the main gate to the complex. The circuit "Between the pavilions" had the shape of the letter V, four turns and four straights. The longest was 450 meters, the average width of the circuit was 8 meters, in the corners 24 meters. The uniform concrete surface of the road was bordered along its entire length and on both sides by a several-meter concrete edge at the level of the road. The capacity of the track was 16 for motorcycles, 12 for cars. In addition to these races, a regional go-kart championship was also held in the exhibition grounds.
