Greetings from the Mayor of Brno
Dear fans of the smell of gasoline and old engines,
when you are reading this text, you may be walking past hundreds of beautiful old cars and motorbikes that in the 20th century wrote the history of motoring and with them the history of Brno. This year, Brno Revival had to forgive itself the epithet "festival of speed", because due to the measures connected with the covid-19 disease, it turned into an exhibition, but hopefully we will have more time to see all this beauty and at the same time remember the importance of motoring racing for modern Brno history.
It is significant that we are meeting at the Brno exhibition grounds. It was here 90 years ago that the temporary depot of the first race on the Masaryk Circuit was located. And it was these two phenomena – car and motorcycle races together with trade fairs – that gave Brno wine world renown. These are without a doubt phenomena that, even in the times of totalitarianism, shaped the city into the cosmopolitan metropolis it is today.
Let's stop and not take these two symbols of Brno, which are so gracefully connected in the Brno Revival, for granted. Let's look around for the shiny beauty standing in the backdrop of the unique fairground. As wonderful a sight as it is, it would be a shame if it remains only a memory of past glory in the future. And so I wish to you and to myself that we continue to meet at the motor races and at the fair grounds at highly topical events.
Markéta Vaňková, mayor of the statutory city of Brno
